Wrightsville and Columbia Bridge Co. collection, 1812-1931.

Materials relating to the Wrightsville and Columbia Bridge Co. (created as The President, Managers, and Company for Erecting a Bridge Over the Susquehanna River in the County of Lancaster, at or Near the Town of Columbia; bridge completed and opened 1814; in 1824 name of company (commonly known as Wrightsville and Columbia Bridge Co.) changed to Columbia Bridge Company; bridge washed away in an 1832 flood, replaced in 1834 to be burned by Union militia 1863; Columbia Bridge Company was also a banking institution and sold its interest in the remains of the burned-out bridge; two companies emerged: Columbia Bridge Company and Columbia National Bank. New bridge completed on burned out piers 1868-1869; in 1879 bridge sold to Pennsylvania Railroad; again destroyed in 1896 in a hurricane and reopened in 1897; current bridge dedicated in 1930 under auspices of Lancaster-York Intercounty Bridge Commission; currently carries route 462 from Wrightsville to Columbia.
